Nakasendo Touring Day 2 (Second Half)
~Continued from the first half~
This was my first time visiting Iwamoto Castle Town , one of the Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and I was surprised to see how much of the old townscape remains over a wider area than in other areas. It is home to the ruins of Iwamoto Castle and has many tourist attractions, so it is strange that it is not particularly well known.
We parked our scooter in Masugata, Shitamachi, and first visited the Katsukawa family home .
Apparently it was one of the leading merchant houses in Iwamura, and it is currently owned by the town of Iwamura and can be toured for free.
The Katsukawa family home is an old house that was used as a filming location for the movie "Father of the Galaxy Railroad."
The mansion is very spacious, and the view of the Japanese garden from the Japanese-style room is a sight that truly epitomizes Japanese beauty.
It was such a beautiful Japanese-style room that I could meditate for long periods of time.
The Katsukawa family home is a must-see tourist spot when you visit Iwamura.
Afterwards, we also visited Tosaya .
We also stopped by Iwamura Brewery's "Onna Joushu," which is said to be visited by many celebrities.
Afterwards, we took a stroll around the old town of Iwamura.
A banner I saw in the town. I've never heard of Sengoku cuisine before, so I wonder what it means... (laughs)
We left Iwamura at 2:30 pm and headed for Asuke.
Route 11 along the river had beautiful scenery and was a spectacular route to ride a motorcycle.
There was a particularly eye-catching huge rock in the middle of the river, so I took a picture of it (↓).
It's hard to tell from the photo, but it's pretty big. Where did this rock come from?
We arrived at Asuke (an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings) at 4pm.
Since I was going to be late for the reunion, I hurriedly explored the town of Asuke.
Probably the best photo spot in Asuke, Manrin Alley, from below.
"Manrin Alley" from above
We stayed there for about 20 minutes and then left Asuke for the reunion venue in Nagoya.
I'm going to be drinking tonight, so I'm staying at a business hotel in Nagoya.
Distance traveled on Day 2: 198km
- Additional Note -
When I'm traveling, I connect my Google Maps navigation system via Bluetooth and listen to the audio while driving, but this consumes quite a bit of battery power...
I wanted to get a portable battery while traveling, so I chose to have it delivered to a convenience store in my destination on Amazon for the first time, and it's a really innovative service!! lol
